On 12 November 2009, we celebrated As's 10th Year Anniversary.... what??? that long?? yup! that long!!

We only planned the event 1 day before coz As was on leave + we wanted it to be a surprise.....

Last Thursday [25/2/10] we had were given special treatment ... buffet at Pullman Hotel Putrajaya!

To some of us, this was the first time here! Surprisingly, there were a lot of people having their buffet lunch here .... + it was hot inside!! Something could be seriously wrong with the A/C because outside was cooler!

The lunch was also meant for Rosli's birthday, who has been with us almost 10 years!, so it was very appropriate that we celebrate his birthday here.

they had a variety of food to sample, even had spare ribs which was not that common. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food it seemed because they went for seconds a few times!

After lunch, it seemed that a lot wanted to pose, especially the boys! For whatever reasons, who knows... but the boys definitely looked more vain than the girls!

There's a place to self-polish your shoes even!

This was the first time the boss gave a 'lecture' to fellow architects! The thought was a bit intimidating, cause you know that some of your fellowmates would know more than you! Assumed there might be a small turnout because it was a weekday + the time was a bit odd cause who'd show up with all the jam and all.... turned out 170 people showed up! Phew!

The topic chosen was Courthouses since our company had a done fair number of courts in Malaysia [some actually built + some still on the drawing board]. The Courts that that were discussed during the Talk were:

So everyone had to read somebody else's Pantun or Merdeka, which made it interesting because you don't actually know the writer was

Transform(er)ation ....

Sorry to tell you but its not about the movie .. its more about the transformation that we have done to the building that we currently call our office ie A I HAUS .. well, the external transformation anyway.

I remembered very well .. the day we moved here from our old office in Kelana Jaya during the Christmas day holiday in 2003. Practically thrown out from there due to some irreconcible differences with the landlord (hehehe). Mind you, it was not easy to find a space that could fit all of us as we were renting the whole block of 4-storeys then. Its not that our office was that big .. our own staffs ranges from 15 to 25 people only (and 25 is on a really good season). However, our set-up allows for the 'umbrella' concept whereby there are other small just starting up firms that we take in to share our utilities, facilities, ideas and experiences in exchange for rental. So, at that time we had like one additional architect firm, one additional QS firm and one legal firm that we have to also consider apart from ourselves.

So, luckily we got this shop lot available in Puchong that we managed to buy with the help of a friend and a friendly bank in the nick of time. And the minute the developer issued the Certificate of Occupation sometime in November 2003, we got the contractor to start renovating for us. However, we moved even before the renovation is fully completed ..

Anyway, this is how the building looked then from outside.

This year in 2009, as the building is already 6 years old, we thought it would be nice to spruce up a new coat of paint whilst celebrating our 15th Anniversary too. We managed to persuade the tenant downstairs to help us with the painting using our creative designers/architects to come up with the colour scheme and ooo la la .. see the T R A N S F O R M A T I O N

The new fresh colours and the orange sign boards surely make a statement! We hope other people would also like what we are trying to do here. And the next time you pass by the building, you will know we are ..

15th Anniversary !!!

After all those preparations .. what can I say .. the day has finally come to celebrate the 15th year of existence of A + I Design specifically and the spin off of all the firm as a whole!

Just to give a feel why it is so important to celebrate even though it is only 15, not even 25 let alone 50 years. It has been a long and incredible journey for the office and the people in it, tested for endurance and patience. The founder a.k.a El, went thru hell and came back (literally speaking) .. with the discovery of her SLE when the office is barely 2 years old and still not that strong financially, project wise. She was in and out of the hospital so often that she had to rely on others to keep the office going.

Special thanks to all those people .. your help during those hard times will be duly remembered, and repaid if not in this life time, may be in the hereafter. Along the way some how things got worse, then miraculously better and manage to withstand the test of time and then some ... so we celebrate this 15th Anniversary of glory with much thanks to the Almighty.

Anyway .. lets get into the festive mood .. may be we'll start with the food :D. The staffs have taken the trouble to order the food only from the best that we have sampled eg. 'laksa' comes from Lina's sister in law, 'nasi hujan panas' (directly translated as hot rain rice) with 'lauk-pauk' all the way from Bangi, trifle from As's hubby, meehoon + snacks + puffs from Wana and of course 'kuah durian' (durian creme) courtesy of yours truly etc.

There are also other food but the main presentation would be the 'kambing panggang' - simply delicious.

We had it hauled from downstairs to 2nd floor pirate style and shown to the guests before being carved and served. For the drinks, the girls concocted a blue lychee fizzy drink .. in theme with the 'ocean' ..

Now let the show begin..... tra-la-la!!!! Our 3 MCs- Amri, As + Lina

Now, the entertainment .. the most favourite was the auction. To get the guests in the mood, we 'auctioned' 5 of our staffs so whoever 'bought' them will be served on hand and foot that night. We had, Tanggang, Cempaka, Cendana and ?? but the most popular that nite is Badang. He collected the highest bid when two ladies (mother and daughter) were trying to outbid each other! It was exhilarating .. to the ladies, I am sure. However, the mother later gave in and the daughter won the bid. We heard phone numbers were exchanged that nite between them .. but if there is a continuation to it, we will tell later ...

After the auction, the successful bidders were treated to a V.I.P treatment, ok... just serving them drinks + food. Of course the proceeds will go to our Amal + Ikhtiar Bakti fund, where we do our part to help the not-so-well off community.

We also had the 'poco-poco' (I know, how lame that sounds) but we got at least a quarter of the guest to join the stage with the rest of the A + I staffs dancing to the tune of Coldplay - Vida La Viva..

It seems that almost everybody knows this line dancing, so there is not much coercing required because as soon as the music starts, the staff took their place, some of the guests then, without much persuasion, jumped to join! Mind you, we have practised for at least 2 months prior to the Anniversary bash so if we seemed to dance better than the rest, you know why

The kids were awed too seeing grown-ups acting like they did + seemed to be enjoying ... and the adults too!

One surprise appearance was Bob. Bob is usually found on the hi-way waving his hand to alert drivers on road diversion ahead. But here, he is seen waving to welcome guests at the entrace as all signed the Guest Book.

Of course he was dressed as a pirate (probably the Somalian type, not Johnny Depp) and the orange hard hat is suitably covered. He was a favourite among the kids .. courtesy of Azam Propel and Azita Plus, thank you very much. Sorry guys that you were not there to see his transformation .. pretty awesome!

The night ended quite late .. and after all the guests left, we were busy cleaning up before leaving for the weekend. Tired, but enjoyed every minute of it and more. A big thank you to all friends, families and associates who had come and make our celeberation more meaningful. Hope we can make it to next significant anniversary .. 20 maybe??

This year we decided to have a 'grand anniversary' because it was to be our 15th! Well we wanted to do a grand one last year too... that didn't happen. After 'brainstorming', the idea of having a costume party was what we went for + the theme 'pirate' was chosen.

Once the theme was set, a lot of us began to plan this anniversary, a lot of discussions, also an event manager was required to set the mood in motion which was the Boss, who decided it should be on the 8th of May as it also coincide with birthday [conveniently coincidential!]

We started having a countdown to the 'historical' event 1 month prior! Talk about excited!

We practiced bringing in the lamb + food...

We practiced [1/2 hour at the beginning everyday!] poco-poco by studying videos on youtube + 1 staff who actually went for poco2 classes!

We had dress rehearsal to make sure all would wear 'piratey', and those who did not, would have to keep searching for the right clothing

Good Morning Vietnam!

This year, we were priviledged to go abroad [Hanoi + Halong Bay] for our office trip, while the whole world is facing a bleak future! It was a 4day /3night trip which started on ? and ended on . We went via 'now everyone can fly' plane, but this time with seat #.. that's progress! no need to rush for seats.

This is the airport.... yup! nothing to shout about [as compared to Sien Reap]

Hanoi, is a bustling + quaint city. The architecture is a mixture of haphazzard + 'well-thought of' design. This combination somehow makes the place unique.

It turns out most of the buildings are built using 6m width grid coz land was very expensive in the heart of the city. Rental could range between $15,000-$20,000 USD on the ground floor of shoplots!

This city is a bike city.... they're everywhere!

The Hotel that we stayed in Hanoi had a very small frontage, maybe about 6m width! There was either 2 or 3 suites per floor.

The dining area [topmost floor] could maybe fit 3 tables!

This bridge was designed by the same guy that did Eiffel Tower.. imagine that!

Sightseeing the streets of Hanoi on trishaw... 1 person/trishaw! Talk about cheap labor!

At the silk factory, seeing first hand how silk is being produced.. from 'worm' to the beautiful soft fabric... simply amazing + intricate process! No wonder silk are expensive. Imagine how many had to be sacrifice...

The experience in the cave was breathtaking! No wonder the Vietnamese was lobbying very hard to make Halong Bay as one of the natural 7 wonders of the world!

More like millions of years to get it to look like this!. The tour guide said it took almost 100 years just to form 1 cm of stalagtite or stalagmite ..

Luxuries of Life

18 Nov 08 : As + Team had gone back to Kelantan [her hometown] to distribute packets of rice to the poor folks there, Pengkalan Chepa in particular. On that day itself, there was no access to the folks' houses because it was flooded. So they distributed 14 packs of rice at this school to 14 families.

We who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, and has in his mind no.favor from anyone for which a reward is expected in return; except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High. He surely will be pleased [when he enters Paradise]. (Qur'an 92: 18-21)

Hopefully the rest of us too should part with our own luxuries + make this beloved country of ours a better place. Aaammiiiiin

10 Oct 2008 : The day we celebrated our 'Raya Aidilfitri' in the office. The theme for this year was to wear our 'baju raya'. So everyone came in a festive mood wearing colorful clothes... the boys with the 'baju melayu' + girls with their 'baju kurung'. Early in the morning, we would hear chattering in the 'kitchen' [actually, just a small pantry], as they were preparing the food.... as it was pot luck.

Everytime before a meal [a feast in this context], we usually say a prayer.

All the food that everyone brought..... it was delicious! Alhamdullillah!

We had 'mee kuah', 'bihun goreng', colorful cakes, brownies, cupcakes, 'lemang + rendang', 'kuih-muih'.

.... Even our own Raya at home, we didn't have these many variety!

After munching all that food, we were then entertained by the Blue + Red Team, seems like we just love these 2 colors!

This time is a drama about the Blue Team family on the Raya itself, having the Red Team as their guests... yah, sounds boring when it is said like that!
... But, it wasn't + you could almost hear them sing 'tra-la-la' in their hearts!

During this Ramadhan, we were thankful for receiving 3 Raya Hampers! One was from an ex-staff...
Thank You Again.

15-Oct-2008 : That day we had an Internal Office Meeting, which in the later part, we opened all the hampers to be distributed amongst ourselves. Looking at everybody's action, seems that everyone was eager to check-out the goodies!

In this Office, we had recently started a tradition [about 5 monyhs or so] whereby if there were 3 or more Staff that wore the same color clothing, then they would have to form a group to perform to the rest of Us! Neat right... coz once a while we get free entertainment! Coincidently on that day, we had 2 groups.... Red + Blue Team to entertain us.

The Red Team decided to do an advertisement kinda performance.

The Blue Team opted to entertaintain us by guessing which staff they were imitating.

Looking at everyone's :-) faces, you just know that they enjoyed the whole event...tra-la-la!

Grand 10th

2 April 2004 : That day was a very special day for us because it was the day we celebrated the Grand Opening of our our new office in Bandar Puteri, Puchong + A+I's 10th Anniversary [imagine that... 10 years!]

At 1st, the event started with Ustaz giving 'Doa Selamat'

After Ustaz left, the bosses gave a green light to start the ceremony rolling!

This Anniversary, we decided to entertain guests by doing performances. Prior to the Big Day, we had had rehearsals to somewhat 'perfected' our skills since none of us were dances!

Everyone participated, even the Bosses! All decorations + design were done in-house.
All + all, we had a wonderful enjoyable time.... tra-la-la!

9 Sept 2008 : This is the only 'buka posa' we had in this office for this year! It was a bit of an impromtu decision to do it coz it was also was supposed to be a surprise birthday party for Ainon.... of course, it didn't really turned out to be a surprise because Ainon found out!

Mak joined in 2001 as our Chief Supervisor at site. At the beginning, we were a bit sceptical to take him in because he was over the age of 55 then! However, he proved to be a reliable + trushworthy + knowledgeable person on site, and for that we thanked him..... He retired about a couple of years ago after successfully completing several projects with us.

Mr Mak Wei Mun died on 28 August 2008, in his sleep according to his daughter. It was quite unexpected as he was fine the day before. Our condolences to his family....

Opening @ KK

We went to Kota Kinabalu 1 day before the Grand Opening on 21-08-08. That night we had a celebration dinner at the Seafood Restaurant in Sedco. That place had live traditional dance while we ate. But the real entertainment was the food itself... everything was fresh + delicious ....

Look at the Oysters... they don't come in that size here!

Even the scallops still had their shells!

On the day of the Opening, we found out that this was only the 2nd Opening that Daihatsu was doing in grand scale. The last time was during the Opening of their Headquarters in Shah Alam, which was 20 years ago!
They even had Lion Dance, talk a about Grand!

We felt honoured that they decided to throw a big celebration for this opening, being their Consultants + all.

Yassin Recital

Surah Yassin is described as the heart of the Holy Quran. It's 1st Ayat 'Yaaseen' - these letters are from the miracles of the Quran, no one can reach its real meaning except Allah.

Almost every Friday, we group together to read the Yassin at the office in the morning. We started this ritual way back in the 2002 [or around that time] even when our office was in Kelana Jaya.

+ usually, we have bottles of water that also join us to hopefully be 'air penawar'.... insya allah [God's Willing]

It seems that this office, all we do is eat [key word is : seems, coz we do work too ofcourse!]..... at least every month, we'll have a birthday party, then sometimes one of our team decides to 'blanja'... and sometimes.... farewell :-(

This one was in June 08, Fadzly brought in homecooked meal to say 'syukur' that he would be a father soon [1st time]

This is the most unique one.... flown in from Tioman Island through Berjaya Air. Mira's Mom cooked in the Island, she went to fetch the food at the airport!

We are blessed because there will always be someone putting food at our discussion table every week! We are happy with this office culture. Thank you all + wat else to say but 'tra-la-la'! Cheers...

AIFC [A+I Fun Club]

AIFC was formed in [loosely] 2004 or 2003... The Staff were getting too stressed with work, so that's how the Club started. At the beginning there were more activities for the Boys....[mainly football] until one day the Girls wanted to have Fun too!

The Team then decided to get sponsorship for the AIFC jerseys.... so a Bulletin on our 'achievements' was born [the only one done so far]. The Bulletin was created by Amri + he was the Main Man to get most of the Sponsors... TQ to all our Sponsors.

14th Year _ Retro

This year ,the company celebrated its 14th year anniversary... It was scheduled to be a big one, with list of invites about 400 pax, and the theme was to be 'retro- through the years'... Some of us went to buy some retro clothes just to get into the mood. But, alas, due to the anticipated cost, we did not have the budget.....

This is the Invitation Card that we were supposed to send to our Guests! [+ we also did a movie called 'Through The Years']
Credits should still be given to these main players : Amri [Main Coordinator], As [Card Designer + Stuff], Hawa [Movie]

On that day [1-04-08], the staff actually brought their own food [whether they cooked themselves or they bought] + surprised the bosses with this gesture! We had 'masak lomak rusa cili api', triffle... amongst other delicious food... Alhamdullillah!

Afterwards we went Karaoke at Red Box Sunway during working hours !!, and sang tra-la-la!!
